The Metropolitan Council of Nashville is the legislative body of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. The council is responsible for enacting local legislation, approving the municipal budget, and conducting oversight of executive branch operations.

Composition

The Metropolitan Council consists of elected representatives from both district and at-large seats. Council members representing specific geographic districts are elected from their respective constituencies, while at-large members are elected on a citywide basis.

The Vice Mayor, elected by the Metropolitan Council from among its members, serves as President of the Council and presides over all council proceedings. The Vice Mayor's title reflects both the role as vice executive to the Metropolitan Mayor and as the presiding officer of the legislative body.
