Beyond direct construction employment, broader economic development rippled through the airport vicinity and across the metropolitan area. Better air connectivity attracted corporate relocations and expanded business travel, supporting downtown revitalization and commercial real estate development. Nashville gained competitive advantage for hosting major conventions, sporting events, and large gatherings requiring significant visitor volumes and efficient ground transportation. Airport authorities project that expanded capacity and modernized facilities will support passenger growth from roughly 17 million annual passengers in 2019 to over 25 million by 2040, generating estimated economic impacts of $8–10 billion annually in direct and indirect economic activity.[4]
Attractions and Facilities
The expansion introduced numerous new amenities throughout the terminal complex. Renovated concourses feature expanded retail and dining options, including local Nashville-themed restaurants and boutique retail showcasing regional artisans and products. The modernized terminal incorporates contemporary design elements, improved wayfinding systems, and enhanced accessibility compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Natural lighting, artwork galleries, and seating areas create a more pleasant environment. Previous concerns about the facility's dated appearance and limited amenities were finally addressed.
Larger aircraft now dock at new airline gates added during expansion phases, supported by enhanced boarding bridge systems that improve passenger comfort and operational efficiency. Terminal concourses were redesigned with widened corridors, additional restroom facilities, and improved climate control systems.
